Get Your Feet Summer Ready with This Essential Pedicure Routine

Have you forgotten about your feet?

Summer is officially sandal season, which means it’s time we give our neglected feet the attention they deserve. Below, we’re sharing all you need to know about preventing dry heels and getting your feet ready for summer and beyond.

Why It’s Important to Take Care of Your Feet

It’s no secret you spend a lot of time on your feet and you might be dealing with issues like dryness, poor circulation, tension, uncomfortable shoes, and pressure from walking and standing, taking care of your feet is essential for keeping rough, cracked, callused skin at bay.

If dryness is your main concern, you’ll want to maintain a regular foot care routine that focuses on moisturizing and exfoliating. Marcela Correa (licensed medical pedicurist and owner of Medi Pedi NYC) told PureWow that to get rid of feet dryness once and for all, you should moisturize your feet twice a day and exfoliate them once a week.

The Best Routine for Getting Your Feet Summer Ready

Caring for your feet and preventing dry, cracked heels doesn’t need to be a hassle or cost a pretty penny at the spa. Once you have the right tools and knowledge, you can pamper your feet right at home. Who knows, it might even become your new favorite self-care routine!

1) Set the Mood

Whether you’re doing your skincare routine, taking a warm bath, or giving yourself an at-home foot spa, self-care is all about setting the mood. This time is dedicated to you, so light a candle and get cozy. Pull out your favorite book, put on a feel-good show, or play some calming music to listen to while you sit and relax.

Now is also the time to get your feet prepped and primed for your at-home foot spa. Go ahead and take off your nail polish or clean up your toenails with clippers if needed. You can also give your feet a quick wash with our Creamy Body Wash to ensure your skin is clean for the next steps.

2) Create Your Foot Spa

Grab a dishpan or designated foot bath, fill the bath with lukewarm water, not hot. You can add rose petals and bath salts for a relaxed, self-love vibe and add a few drops of our Skin Illuminator Body Oil for added moisture. Let your feet soak for a few minutes until the skin has softened.

3) Exfoliate

Exfoliation is key for getting rid of those rough, dry spots that make you dread putting on your summer sandals. To freshen your feet, you want a nourishing body scrub that will polish and restore dry, dull skin. Look for skin-friendly ingredients like sugar and lactic acid that support skin hydration levels while buffing away dead skin cells.

Our Lactic Acid Body Scrubs soften and smooth skin with natural AHAs and plant-based fatty acids from nourishers like shea butter, babassu butter, and argan oil, so all you have to do is choose your favorite scent.

Once your feet are soaked and soft, begin to gently exfoliate, focusing on the soles of the feet and heels. Don’t forget to go around the ankle and up the calf, too, being mindful of the skin on top of the foot since it’s thinner and more delicate. If you need some extra exfoliation on the place that needs it the most, you can use a natural foot pumice stone or scraper to clean up your heels. Afterward, rinse the dead skin cells and pat your feet dry.

4) Moisturize and Massage

To lock in hydration and get the baby-soft feet you’re after, you’ll need to moisturize. Grabbing a scoop of one of our Whipped Body Butters enhanced with hyaluronic acid and plant-based ceramides (we recommend matching the scent to your body scrub), massage the body butter into your skin, focusing on the heels. Wrap your feet with plastic wrap or a designated foot wrap for 10 minutes to allow the body butter to melt into the skin—this will boost the butter’s skin-softening effects!

Finish massaging in what remains after removing the plastic wrap. Take your time massaging your feet and loosening up those tight muscles. Apply your scent-matched Body Oil to seal in the moisture and rejuvenate the skin.

Bellavana Beauty Tip: Wear socks to bed to keep all the hydration and moisture in. Your feet will be noticeably smoother and softer when you wake up!
