Body Care Vs. Skincare: The Differences & How to Create a Body Care Routine

The Differences Between Body Care and Skincare

When we talk about skincare, you probably think of facial care and your daily regimens. Although we already know the important of taking care of the skin on our face (including the neck and décolletage), we hear less about the importance of taking care of the skin on the rest of our body.

The rest of the skin on our bodies outside of our face tends to get neglected, but by incorporating proper "body care" into our routines, we can curve common skin issues like dark spots, aging, wrinkles, dryness, acne, and more! Our skin provides integral protection from internal damage and infection, and therefore, we must take very good care of it.

Even then, most skincare is targeted to treat the face, possibly because these areas (the face, neck, and décolletage) are the first areas on the body to show signs of aging. Luckily, the more we learn about the importance of self-care, skincare, and wellness, the easier it becomes to treat the skin on your body with the same loving attention you do for the skin on your face.

Caring for the skin on your body doesn't have to be an elaborate or expensive process, but it can be an effective way to keep your skin healthy and hydrated so you can always feel comfortable in your own skin. How to Create a Body Care Routine

If you are familiar with maintaining a well-regimented facial skincare routine, then good news - you're already well versed in the order that your body care products should be applied: cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer. It's that simple. To make it even easier for you, we created the "Essential Routine" that includes the essential products you need to kickstart your simple, plant - based and toxin - free body care routine.

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleansing and washing your body is the most crucial step as it lays the groundwork for all of the products that follow. Without a clean base, you aren't getting rid of the excess dirt, oil, and impurities that accumulates on the skin throughout the day. Using a gentle soap or body wash that doesn't strip or irritate the skin is key.

Although formulated with all skin types in mind, our Cream Body Washes are the perfect dry skin solution. Unlike generic body washes, the Cream Body wash is free from harsh or irritating surfactants (the agent that cleans the skin) that may strip your skin of it's natural oils and disrupt the function of the protective barrier. The first (and main) ingredient is shea butter, and along with other butters and oils, they are the plant - based surfactants used to cleanse the skin. The cream texture, compared to a liquid or gel consistency, is gentle and replenishing to the skin's natural barrier. The Cream Body Wash is available in Cherry Almond and Raspberry Mimosa scents.

Step 2: Exfoliate

After rinsing away your troubles (and the residual soap from your body cleanser), follow up with an exfoliating body scrub to slough away dead skin cells that may be clogging pores. While certain scrubs can be too abrasive for the delicate skin of the face, the skin on the body is much better suited for exfoliation. You'll find the best skin results using a body scrub 2 - 3 x a week, depending on your skin type.

For this step, try our Nourishing Body Scrubs. Our Cherry Almond and Raspberry Mimosa scented body scrubs were created for all skin types, especially dry. We focused on using nourishing ingredients such as shea butter, argan and avocado oil that are perfect for hydrating and moisturizing dry skin. These skin conditioning ingredients are packed with anti-inflammatory fatty acids and vitamins known to soften and heal the skin. Plus, the sugar in our scrubs is a natural humectant that draws in extra moisture to the skin.

Step 3: Moisturize

Using a rich, emollient moisturizer, followed by a body oil, can smooth and soothe skin, ensuring that your skin's fatty lipid barrier is healthy, intact, and supporting a youthful glow.

Lock in moisture with our decadently scented whipped Body Butters. They are a blend of skin - loving oils and butters perfectly whipped into a soft, creamy body moisturizer.

Our multi tasking Skin Illuminator Body Oils can be used to add a healthy glow and seal in moisture to your skin by applying directly to your skin. It can also be used as a shave oil in the shower, or as a fragrant and soothing addition to your bath.
