4 Body Care Ingredients You Need This Fall Season
Transitioning Your Body Care Routine from Summer to Fall
Fall is officially here. And just like you transition your summer wardrobe from breezy dresses to cozy sweaters, you want to transition your skincare routine from summer to fall. The colder weather means moisturizing, hydrating, and restorative ingredients will be the go-to for keeping your skin looking its best.
Find out the four must-have ingredients you need in your transitional body care routine.
1. Shea Butter
Shea butter—the holy grail moisturizing ingredient. Deriving from African shea tree nuts, shea butter is a plant lipid rich in skin-nourishing fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants. Shea butter contains five fatty acids that moisturize, soothe, and support the skin barrier, especially during the colder, drier months.
Thanks to its blend of fatty acids, allantoin, and vitamins, shea butter has an instant smoothing effect, leaving skin plumper and softer. It also provides long-lasting moisturization, so it’s a must-have ingredient for colder weather.
Where to find it: Shea butter is one of Bellavana Beauty’s star ingredients. Find it in any of our products.
2. Ceramides
Fall can be harsh on skin, so remember to repair it. Ceramides are one of the most beloved restorative ingredients in skincare – primarily because they already occur naturally in the skin! Ceramides are lipids (or fats) found in skin cells. They make up 30 to 40% of our skin’s outer layer and play an important role in our skin’s barrier function.
Ceramides are also vital for keeping the skin healthy and moisturized, especially as we age. Because ceramides reinforce the skin barrier, they help hold hydration in, resulting in plumper, firmer skin.
Where to find it: We’ve added ceramides to our body butter formulation to help seal in moisture, restore the skin barrier, support the skin microbiome, and enhance the body butter’s protective factors.
3. Hyaluronic Acid
The transition from summer to fall means a loss of humidity in the air and – ultimately – our skin. To add back that lost hydration, reach for ingredients and products that will replenish the skin’s water levels. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is one of the best hydrating options on the market because it’s affordable and highly effective.
HA is a naturally occurring molecule found in the skin and other connective tissues. Hyaluronic acid is known as a humectant, meaning it draws water from the air and into your skin cells, leading to hydrated, plump skin.
Where to find it: Find hyaluronic acid in our whipped body butters. Our body butters are formulated with moisturizing ingredients (like shea butter) and hydrating ingredients (like hyaluronic acid) to tackle dryness from its leading causes.
4. Lactic Acid
Lactic acid is an exfoliating alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from fermented sources such as sour milk. As an AHA, lactic acid buffs and polishes the skin’s surface by removing dead skin cells that cause dullness, dryness, and an impaired skin barrier. Compared to other exfoliating acids, lactic acid has a large molecular size, so it’s less likely to cause irritation making it a great option for sensitive skin.
Lactic acid is also an ideal ingredient for a fall and winter skincare routine because it’s a humectant. Like HA, lactic acid pulls water from the environment and into the skin, helping hydrate and increase the skin’s moisture level.
Where to find it: We’ve added lactic acid to our body scrubs, giving the formulation a dual exfoliation effect that helps clear pores, soften skin, add back hydration, and treat “strawberry skin” and KP.
